Aswad Black in Arabic are a long-lasting British reggae group, noted for adding strong R&B, soul, and soca influences to the reggae sound. They have been performing since the early 1970s, and have released a total of twenty-one albums. As naturalised children of immigrants from the Caribbean, part of the aftermath of World War II, the children were moved to London. They attended a local high school near Ladbroke Grove, and various junior schools as Tan Tan children of immigrants from the Caribbean around West London in 1975. Album 1976 8 Songs. Featured On. Aswad Essentials. United States. Internet Service Terms. Cookie Warning. On And On7 Version. Aswad, Sweetie Irie. In August of '82, Aswad played live at Meanwhile Gardens on the Sunday of Notting Hill Carnival and the resulting live album Live and Direct is a faithful record of that event, where they played a live dub set. Love Fire gained wide recognition when it was used as the backing rhythm for Dennis Brown's Promised Land. Aswad released their most recent material in 2009, with the album City Lock. They released the singles What Is Love and Do That Thing in the same year. Personal blog. Replicas - Tubeway Army. Aswad-Oh Jah. After fifteen albums and two decades on the music scene, Aswad remains one of Britain's best-loved reggae bands. And for me Aswad will shine for years to com. Songs in album Aswad - To The Top 1986. Aswad - Pull Up. Aswad - Wrapped Up. Aswad - Bubbling. Aswad - Noh Bada Wid It. Aswad - Gimme The Dub. Aswad - Nuclear Soldier. Aswad - Hooked On You. Aswad's debut on Mango is still one of the band's strongest efforts. Nicely displaying the group's jazz-tinged, roots reggae sound, Aswad features such vocal highlights as Can't Stand the Pressure and Concrete Slaveship, as well as the fine instrumental Red Up. And while not as successful as their British peers Steel Pulse, Aswad still qualifies as one of the best roots outfits to emerge outside of Jamaica. A fitting start to the band's long and impressive run
