The Buddy Miles Express was a group fronted by former Electric Flag drummer Buddy Miles. It was formed after the Electric Flag broke up. They released two albums in the 1960s. The Buddy Miles Express was formed after the Electric Flag, of which Miles was a member, broke up in 1968. The group also contained four other former Electric Flag members. Billboard announced in its October 12 issue that the group had signed to Mercury. On its own merits, though, it's a fairly respectable soul-rock album. Hendrix was referring to his own material as electric church music on some occasions in the late 1960s, and likely he had something like the soul-funk-rock fusion of Band of Gypsys in mind when he conceived this. Of course Miles played in Band of Gypsys, and there wasn't any way the music he was writing and sing. George Allen Miles, Jr. 1947 - 2008, known as Buddy Miles, was an American rock and funk drummer, most known as a member of Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsys from late 1969 until early 1970. Miles played in a variety of rhythm and blues and soul acts as a teenager, including Ruby & the Romantics, the Ink Spots, the Delfonics and Wilson Pickett.
