Devin Dazzle & the Neon Fever is a 2004 album by Felix da Housecat, his first since 2001's Kittenz and Thee Glitz and continued his collaboration with both Tommie Sunshine and Dave the Hustler. It is a concept album based on the story of the character Devin Dazzle and his involvement with a group of women called the Neon Fever. The album is Felix's highest-charting album to date. The album features the work of many collaborators including LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy, Dave the Hustler, Tommie. He had been kicking around since the late '80s, polishing his substantial underground cred, until spin-off singles like Silver Screen Shower Scene and Madame Hollywood aligned just so with the height of the self-conscious fashionista timewarp fad known as electroclash. At one point, Felix's mug could be seen in most American music magazines - a baffling development to readers aware of the producerDJ's past and the dance-phobic tendencies of those publications. Gogul

While not as charming as KITTENZ AND THEE GLITZ, Felix da Housecat's follow-up DEVIN DAZZLE & THE NEON FEVER delves even more into the 80s music, particularly New Wave. Lyrics from The Neon Fever have a strong, rhythmical power to their shout. "Short Skirts" is humorously sexy, while "Hunting Season" is a unique take on grrl power. Elsewhere, "Everyone is Someone in L.A." is a wonderful electro send-up of celebrity culture, and "Watching Cars Go By" is appropriately driving. But other tracks ("What She Wants," "Let Your Mind Be Your Bed")seem rather rushed and not fully thought out, and others are too tantalizingly short ("She's So D*mn Cool," "Nitelife Funworld"), like embryos that haven't gestated. It feels as if Felix was trying to capitalize on the goodwill generated by the earlier album. But there's still enough here to warrant a listen.

Rainbearer

An amazing cd by Felix. Track 10, labeled Watching Cars go by, is one of the biggest funky house smashes in my area. It has been used in many huge and famous mixes. The cd is of average quality, but there are a few standout tracks that make it a valuable purchase. Any fans of Felix's music should definitely pick it up.
