Curious. Anyone know if the albums individually sealed inside the box? Thanks.
  • Gelgen
I just picked this up from Amazon, very good price for brand new sealed set. It was advertised as the limited edition 2016 version, and the hype sticker on the shrink wrap is the same as the images posted with this release - indicating 7 x albums on 180 gram. Having read a few reviews below, I am now questioning which version of the 2 two releases was actually sent to me (2016 v. 2018). Wildflowers and Last DJ, the two I listened to so far do not feel heavy enough to be 180 gram - though I didn't weigh them. Regardless, the sound quality is excellent and I am glad to have the set given the price and sound quality. One quibble is that Hypnotic Eye comes as a single disc, but other versions released of that album at the same time are double disc versions. This is odd given that there is lots of room in the box to fit the double version.
  • Mamuro
I too just picked up Tom Petty The Complete Studio Albums Volume 2 (1994-2014) from Amazon for a really good price everything is the same as the 2016 version including the bar code on the bottom of the box. I think Discogs need to look into this cause as far as I know there wasn't a 2nd release of this box set 3000 copy is all that was released.
  • Hi_Jacker
I have this reissue from 2008, I remember buying it new around that time and shelving it, sound quality wasn't great. Pulled it out yesterday just to see if it was as average as I remembered it sounding. No warmth and very little low end, quite tinny sounding. Not an enjoyable listen. I stopped it after afew songs. I've heard worse but I certainly wouldn't recommend this press at all.
  • Downloaded
HiI also don't really know which version I have.Only got this a couple of days ago and all are 180g except for Wildflowers. All type etc refers to 2016...Haven't listened to all of them yet but those I have sound really good.
  • Fenrikasa
Hey Guys!So I ended up finding someone with a 2016 mint in the original shipping box from 2016 (it was dated) and the shipping box was sealed shut. Needless to say some of the records are indeed NOT 180 grams. So i guess there's the answer to that!! I dont know how many of buyers on here who did buy in 2016 faced that problem but i cant deny the shipping carton and how it was dated.ps. i paid below what there going for as well
  • Enditaling
Has anyone been able to with 100% absolution figure out how to tell the difference between the 2016 and 2018 without opening a box set from shrink?
  • Vivados
Honestly, I don't think there is a difference. I've asked multiple times / multiple places, and no one can actually produce a "repress" set with 140g records instead of the 180's that were supposedly only available in the 2016 release. I bought one of the "new" sets a few months ago and I either got a 2016 (dumb luck) or the "2018 represses" are completely indistinguishable from the 2016...I've checked several of the records in my set vs. what I already owned (all bought separately) and came up with the following:"Hypnotic Eye" is identical to this one:https://www.discogs.com/Tom-Petty-The-Heartbreakers-Hypnotic-Eye/release/5939858...except pressed on 180G."The Last DJ" is identical to this one:https://www.discogs.com/Tom-Petty-And-The-Heartbreakers-The-Last-DJ/release/10139357...but slightly heavier (180G) vinyl."Echo" is identical to this one:https://www.discogs.com/Tom-Petty-And-The-Heartbreakers-Echo/release/9860933...except issued on 180G as well."She's The One" is identical to this one:https://www.discogs.com/Tom-Petty-And-The-Heartbreakers-Shes-The-One-Songs-And-Music-From-The-Motion-Picture/release/10158641...except issued on 180G.When I say "identical" it means I checked the cover, label, and runouts against the links above and they were identical. Do not have copies of the other albums so could not check.
  • Gri
First off, vinyl weight is a nominal weight. 140g can be 130-150. Just as I've weight 180g, some were 175, even 200.I'm trying to figure out what box I have, as the first run should have been sold out, and now there is this 2018 repress, supposedly on 140 instead. All the albums in my set are clearly 180, except Wildflowers is 140.Is this info on the 2018 entry incorrect? Or did I somehow get a 2016 box? (No notes in that entry about weights of each album)Hype sticker says 180.Although hype sticker can be 'wrong' as I have the 2018 repress of the Live Anthology set and they are all 140 where the original was 180 and they just used the same hype sticker.
  • Berkohi
I just weighed my Wildflowers from 2016 box set. LP 1 is 177g, LP 2 is 171g
  • Uickabrod

The Positive: For those late to the dance, or those who want a treat, this assemblage is nothing short of amazing. First of all, it is what it claims to be, and the vinyl package is going to set you back nearly $300. The good point, the really good point is, while the original re-released of Wildflowers, Echo and The Last DJ were mastered for vinyl from digital sources, this box set has compromised nothing, being assembled from the original analog masters for the first time, and the sound quality is just brilliant.Along with the hefty price tag, the package is limited to 3000 copies on 180 gram vinyl, and includes the seven albums cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Studios, with replica artwork. Wildflowers is a double LP, as are Echo, The Last DJ, Mojo and Highway Companion. Mojo and Hypnotic Eye are so new that they’ve been taken from the original master tapes, while the remaining have been re-mastered from the original analog sourced material. And no, my box did not come with a download card. The Negative: Someday those who build these boxed sets are going to understand the nature of both record collecting and record storage. I know of no one who stores their albums inside of the jackets, so, while storing them out side of the jacket, with the record and jacket housed in a plastic sleeve, there is no way of getting them back in the box. This means that you’re left with figuring out what to do with the empty box. My solution was to put as many as I could in the box and store the others next to the box. Of course you’re gonna have to devise your own plastic sleeve for the box itself, no one sells such large bags.Review by Jenell Kesler
  • Onetarieva
Jenell, great review, thank you!can you do me a favor and confirm that what you were saying about wildflowers, echo, and last dj.These 3 records were re-issued at one point on their own, but remasters from digital, correct?BUT in this box set, these 3 records are done properly FROM the masters?thanks so much!!
  • BORZOTA
I kept the thick shrink wrap on the box. Before opening, I put packaging tape across the opening, then sliced it open. With a utility knife. It opens and closes no problem and the wrap stays on.If you remove the foam, I don't see why there wouldn't be adequate room in the box o store them with the LPs out of sleeve.
  • Altad
Should the first pressing and re release be listed as two different pressings?
  • Dalarin
I just received my box set (ordered online last week) and all of the records are 180G, not 140. In fact, the runouts on the records are identical to my "regular" copies of "She's the One," "The Last DJ," and "Hypnotic Eye" except the boxed set versions are on heavier vinyl. I doubt that I hit the lottery and managed to order a 2016 set that has been laying around. Has anyone else ordered a "new" set recently that can corroborate the 140G assertion?
  • Getaianne
I would say yes if only due to the first press at 180 gram and the reissue at 140 gram. It's makes them different.
  • Grillador
Anyone else have a copy of: The Last DJ. 1-55543 from this box set, labelling issue? Disc one labeled both sides as Side 2?
  • NiceOne
On one of the Internet music forums, someone said this "new" pressing contains 140 gram LPs. The original limited edition 3,000 set was 180 grams, although a few of the LPs in the box set I purchased were underweight by a fair bit including Wildflower. LP 1 is 130 grams. LP 2 is 140 grams.
  • Vishura
I was wondering where these extra copies came from as well. I've recently seen in stock at Amazon, Best Buy, and Guitar Center. I did buy one of the few shown available on Amazon (sold by Amazon) just for WIldflowers.
  • Rocky Basilisk
This set has been out of print and sold out long ago. All of a sudden we have a bunch of sets that just showed up out of thin air. All's I can figure out that it has been repressed. I have an original and can prove it with a dated copy of my invoice. And I jumped on this repress for a fraction of the price. While everything is physically the same between the two sets, it 100% has been repressed. Be interesting to see if we now have runout variations. I'm not opening my first set to find out.So I just looked at the release page and there are no runouts for any album. I'll have to get to my second set and post them shortly.
  • Wenyost
So do you have a 2016 *and* a 2018 version of this set? I just bought (what I thought) was a 2018 set but everything says 2016 and the records are 180G.
  • The_NiGGa
This is clearly a repress as it definitely sold out and went OOP. Time for a new sub. Meanwhile I bought this and left my first press remain sealed. Listening to side1 of Wildflowers now and if everything is as good as this then this is a primo set. Have Volume 1 and everything I played on it so far has been excellent, as good as I expected it. Compares very well to the first pressings of early Petty that I have.
  • Blueshaper
So...you can pay some turd vulture/seller $238 for just this album or go get the box set that comes with 11 other albums for $212.39 brand new on eBay with free shipping and free returns. Sad thing is, someone will pay.
  • Onaxan
If this is a limited edition of 3,000 copies that sold out, where did all these new copies come from ?
  • Hbr
Does anyone know if these come with downloads? I finally said F it and bought this set for Wildflowers, but I can say I do like the most of these so it is worth it!Thanks
  • Miromice
No downloads in my box. The last set didn't come with them either.
  • Runehammer
Beautifully made box set! Incredible masterings! Wildflowers specifically sounds amazing!
  • nadness
I can find all of the other Tom Petty 180 Gram reissues from 2016 but not this one. C'mon Warner Bros let's do a re-press so people don't get away with charging so much.
  • Bluecliff
This was was only available in the Complete Studio Albums Vol. 2 box set. It is the only remastered version of this album ever released on vinyl. And it sounds amaaaaaazing.
  • Bev
It was released as a 2 LP (not 180 Gram) years ago (1994) , then released in 2016 as a 2 LP set on 180 Gram. That recent pressing sold out right away. You'll have to get it in the boxed set for now if you can afford what sellers are asking. Everything in the boxed set is still available as a separate album except Wildflowers.
  • Gietadia
Didn't realize this was a 62+ minute album until now. The OP was 2LP. I've never heard a good sounding hour long single LP so hopefully a reissue will be a double. Was this only available in the boxed set?

It's annoying that they won't reissue Wildflowers separate from the set. It seems that all of his albums have been reissued except this one, why? Is there a legal problem?

I wonder what's on side 4 of the records Echo and The Last DJ - plain or etching?

ethrillnet I wonder what's on side 4 of the records Echo and The Last DJ - plain or etching? Etched. Echo has the "trident" looking E logo and The Last DJ has a $ sign with a crown on top of it.

Excellent sounding box, Wildflowers is a huge step up from the original cut from digital. Always found the original dmm rb cut too strident, metallic sounding, the AAA cut by Chris Bellman has air and layering to it :). She's the one even though it's from digital is alot more listenable than the bright sounding cd. The box is pricey but worth it to think that an original Wildflowers non AAA exceeds this sets price alone.

They really need to issue the records separately. I'm not willing to spend $200 when I only want two or three of these albums

They're coming in April except for Wildflowers. Wildflowers will probably be available in deluxe format sometime afterward

I'm sure like the Bowie box set, this will eventually be broken up... hopefully sooner rather than later! Like many others i need an affordable copy of Wildflowers!!!

Stunning. As always, masterful job by Chris Bellman. Being able to spin AAA versions of Wildflowers and Echo is a dream come true. The albums in the set that were done from digital masters (She's the One, Mojo, and Hypnotic Eye) sound almost equally as good. In this age of poorly sourced, poorly mastered, and poorly pressed vinyl made to cash in on the vinyl fad, it's so refreshing to get a set of remasters done the right way like this. This is the kind of stuff that you play for your skeptical friends to show them how good vinyl can sound. As another reviewer pointed out, this set is up there with the Beatles in Mono set. Simply fantastic and worth every penny. Get one before they're gone!

Sounds amazing, especially Wildflowers. 100% worth it just for the first 4 in the box.

Anyone else have two Side 3/4 in their copy of Mojo and no Side 1/2? Ugh...
  • Tisicai
Thanks. Just unlucky. Seller is trying to have side 1/2 provided through their supplier. Fingers crossed.

Mine just arrived and has Sides 1-4 for Mojo, no double.
