Thats what the British modern jazz scene felt like in the 1970s, and having lived with this album for the past few days, I have proof that we were not alone. But what felt like chaos was actually a worldwide burst of creativity among young musicians who had realised that they could do their own thing in jazz without waiting for the Americans to show them how. They took off in all directions. These nine examples, taken from rare albums only ever released in Japan, exude the authentic excitement of those days. Most impressive of all is the rhythmic energy on show. Relaxed swing doesnt come into it the drummers are relentless. Various Artists. J-Jazz: Deep Modern Jazz From Japan 1969-1984. Your Rating. Top notch compilation and I'm not sure why I didn't buy Vol. 1 when it came out but I now have both Volumes and they are damn good pressings as well. I'm transferring them onto my minidisc (needs 2 discs) so I can listen to them as I'm walking to work and lunchtimes.
  • Samardenob
Glad you enjoy them, hopefully vol 3 later this year....
  • Saberblade

  • INwhite
Have you received your copy yet? According to amazon.com it ships in 1-3 weeks, so it’s not in stock.
  • NI_Rak
No, it's available on Amazon right now. I'm not sure what Amazon you're looking at. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PTMSZMO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
  • Fearlessrunner
Not in stock on Amazon. So must be sold out then.
  • Ghordana
I'm surprised you it didn't notice it's available on Amazon. :)
  • Arador
I had the vinyl first press pre-ordered at Boomkat. A few days after release they contacted me they were out of stock and couldn't deliver. I didn't wait and immediately ordered one of the two copies on Discogs. What a fantastic compilation! Music and soundwise! The way to get introduced to Japanese modern jazz. I heard some of the records involved will be rereleased by BBE soon. So there's more beauty to come.
  • Gldasiy
BTW, anyone know what could be source material for the vinyl pressing?
  • Silvermaster
I'm not certain if you're Tony or Mike, but sterling work either way. Thanks for your efforts. I hope there're more to come. Chin chin!
  • Gholbithris
Mix of vinyl dubs (done on EMT 930 with Madake stereo cart) and tapes. I was co-compiler.
  • Hucama
I don't know, but it sounds really good. one more word
  • Runeshaper
Best jazz comp I've heard in a long time, every track is a revelation... TOP recommendation if you're a jazz head... It's great that the light has been shone on this area of jazz 10/10
  • Fenrikasa
East Plants? Earth Mother??? Oh my that's great news thanks!
  • Wymefw
3 first reissues are: Tachibana, Earth Mother, East Plants, full vinyl reissues, orig packaging etc.
  • Eyalanev
Reissue of the J-Jazz? If so, I think June there're expecting re-press.
  • Kizshura
Do you know which ones there are hopeful plans for reissues? Hoping to own a copy of Tohru Aizawa Quartet Tachibana at some point...
Superb! Thanks for information about sources etc. This album is a KILLER and I am more than happy to have a copy!
  • Natety
Thank you, I was co-compiler; we are working on vol 2 and there will full reissues of some of the albums
  • Aiata
Totally agree, music is revelation, fantastic without any limits, pure power! Sound, well good, but not audiophile, don't know what are the sources for comp, but I guess it could be other vinyl etc, that's why. 11/10 if you jazz head!
  • Qane
This is how it should be: Bonus tracks on the vinyl-version, Great!
